New Horizons: Matthew’s Departure

At this exciting moment, with joy and sadness, I announce that this summer I will leave the position of EQAT Coordinator. I will miss you and the pace of campaign life, and gratefully carry your stories with me. When I came back from Ferguson in 2014, I was clear that my calling is to weave together the arts and social change work in a way that honors our experiences, our intuition, and our potential. After 3 years with EQAT, it’s time for me to take a risk and jump into something new.

This fall, I will begin a theatre training program in Philadelphia to increase my skill as an artist and activist. We need practice envisioning the world we want to create during this period of political reactivity and repression. In movements for change, I look forward to incorporating performance alongside training and organizing.

I am delighted that the POWER LOCAL GREEN JOBS campaign puts forward a solution, and that the board is in conversation about next steps for staffing. In the coming months, I look forward to connecting with you about my next steps and my appreciation for EQAT. In the mean time, see you at the General Meeting on May 3 and the action on May 10 to Celebrate and Escalate!
