Exelon shareholders’ meeting in Washington DC, May 1

Each and every day, more than a million dollars flows out of our region as profit to the mega-utility Exelon, the corporation that owns PECO. Week after week, Exelon relies on millions of low-income ratepayers in Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, Chicago and many other places to line its pockets while fighting against the green jobs and energy those communities need.

It is time to follow the money and demand that the utility corporation works for a shared future where we all can flourish.

On May 1, in Washington DC, join Earth Quaker Action Team and the Power Local Green Jobs campaign for an “alternative shareholder meeting” outside the Exelon annual shareholder meeting.

At the same time, others will turn out in North Philadelphia to gather answers to the question “what could a million dollars a day do for your community?”

Power Local Green Jobs is demanding investments in good jobs and local solar. While Exelon executives tout their profits inside, Philadelphia area ratepayers and their allies will be telling the truth about the company’s unsustainable business practices.

Actions have been steadily escalating this year.

Take a look at our new video showing the commitment and courage of all of you who stepped up the pressure during the We Won’t Wait actions at the end of March. 25 people were arrested for telling the truth about the suffering stemming from PECO’s dirty energy.

Since then we showed up with flyers to welcome the new CEO Mike Innocenzo for his first day on the job. Then a choir and select instruments gave a world premiere concert performance in PECO’s lobby. The following week the congregation of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church gathered to recite the rosary for economic and climate justice.

To join this movement, turn out for one of our May 1 actions or come to General Meeting next week, also on May 1, 6:30-8:30pm at Friends Center, 1501 Cherry St, Philadelphia PA.
